we forget more than we remember
make up more stories to stay in our slumber we..
startle less, focused on our own stress, surrounded by the dead
pictures and words we read
sharing the tragedy, responding, self-righteous bantering
self-educating and self-proclaimed caring
outspoken, we blame them, they're broken, the system
we know and we claim to be woken
tucked in so safely in our own beds as if we did our best
still they cry, under they...
as if we did our best, under we...
as if we did our best, all that we could
how could this happen?
find excuse to ignore one's rights
speak the truth with the fear to die
ruffle the feathers and hope for good weather
storms come with pressure
see the wind blow around the eyes
listen to the sound when doves cry
thinking we’ve changed as we echo songs stolen again
we forget more than we remember we..
make up more stories pulled out of the sleeves..
of books that were written, white mans' history
focused on our own stress convinced we did all that we could
olly olly olly oxen free
molotov cocktail on me!
